Turn It Up was a difficult song to program because at first we only had a baseline and really wanted to stay away from having the illustrious sounds of chords and guitars that we had so often used in our other tracks.
So instead we listened to some old soul records and lifted some horn stabs and string phrases and tuned them to match the driving bass we already had.
It was time to look for something vocal from break beat albums and we came across this old hip-hop, beats, scratches and sound effects record which was filled with dozens of words, sounds and effects. It had to be something that reflected dance music and nothing could be better than being in a club and hearing a great record coming on that made you start shouting “Turn It Up”… So that’s what we chose.
Again, we went for a more hip-hop sound in the drums but sequencing them more according to dance music. This song turned from being very basic to an album definite choice in just one session.
