Originally when we produced this song it had more of a conventional house music feel in the drums but we wanted to get rid of that and get something more funk / soul based so we re-programmed the drum sounds until we got exactly what we were looking for.
What’s so beautiful about this piece is the fact that it has 4 different chord tones throughout and that there are musical phrases that only ever occur just the once which meant that the bass had to be carefully arranged to match this.
We wanted to create something that could sound edgy then come away into something that gently floats along the grooves, so the contrast is the hard 90’s piano into the soft Rhodes during the playback. Some of the sequencing takes inspiration from “Daft Punks” classic “Voyager” track although the two do not sound recognisably alike.
There are some small hints of “Giorgio Serci” on guitar humming away whilst he played to this groove which we kept because of its flair and uniqueness.
