Being great fans of jazz and Latin jazz, we definitely wanted to have a song that reflected this on the album. In the end we decided to lean on the original version of “Thursdays Love’s” 1999 12 inch single release of “Let It Rain” because the mood was perfect for what we wanted to achieve.
After having a conversation with Sienna we trusted that it would be a good idea and set about putting this song together. We probably spent the most time in editing and arranging this song over the others because there were so many directions we could take it.
There were several bass line ideas that were programmed and we spent much more time than usual to get the Sonics of the 808 drums correct. We actually used 4 different 808 tones and spent a while in tuning them so that they’d exactly match this almost jazz gothic styled mood and carry the weight from one side of a club to another.
Sienna kindly lent her vocal to this track and we pitched it up as almost to deliberately make it difficult to determine what she was saying. “Don’t Go Away” is what we’d call a darker side to the album but still encompasses what we try to do musically in our work.
